Videos to Get You Thinking
Alongside our mentoring videos, we wanted to share with you some videos from around the globe that support the message of development, learning and mindset. These videos are not related directly to mentoring BUT rather relate to concepts that support you being involved in a mentoring program, partnership or conversation. These are also videos that we personally like AND have often used in our face to face (F2F) education workshops. The copyright belongs to each individual author - so our role is just to highlight some of the great messages that are available to support your engagement in the mentoring and personal development process. Below each video we provide some insight into our rationale for their selection.
Learning RevolutionBeing involved in a mentoring relationship is essentially a form of self-directed, personalised learning. This TED video by Ken Robinson shares an approach that is about moving from the 'linear industrial form of learning to the agricultural model of mentoring'. This model is more about putting together the right conditions for a learner to flourish. As you watch this video - think about how your mentoring partnership can set the right conditions for you to flourish.

Mind Shifting Mt Everest SwimThis video is about our mindset and that sometimes in order to tackle a new challenge, we have to have a completely new mindset and consideration in how we might achieve success in this new activity. This lesson is shared via Lewis Pugh who discusses his swim in Lake Imja in the Himalayas. In this swim he had to radically alter his normal approach to swimming in order to achieve success.

Forget Multi-tasking - Try Mono-taskingAs a community we have grown in our capacity to multi-task. As speaker, Paolo Cardini, says: 'People aren't just cooking any more — they’re cooking, texting, talking on the phone, watching YouTube and uploading photos of the awesome meal they just made.' However, how efficient are we in our 'best' multi-tasking moment. A key aspect of mentoring is to be present for the other person - perhaps it's time to use the mentoring conversation as a way to practice the art of 'mono-tasking'!

Try Something New for 30 DaysSetting out in a formal or intentional mentoring relationship is often about trying something new. We encourage mentees and mentors to make the first 30-100 days of their mentoring partnership a focussed time where they set the agenda and vision for the rest of the relationship. This video, by Matt Cutts, shares the notion of trying something new for 30 days - perhaps that something is mentoring!
